Our private chef and catering business was born out of our love for traveling and eating delicious foods along those travels. In 2016, we were both servers for a giant restaurant corporation. We worked every day to save up enough money to take our first trip together, a ten-day vacation to Madrid, Spain. After that, we were hooked on experiencing as many amazing foods and ingredients as we could find.
Fast forward a few years to 2019, we were still waiting tables, but had traveled all over the country and internationally on the hunt for new flavors and cuisines. That was the year we decided to take a leap of faith and opened Azafrán Private Chef & Catering here in Boone, NC.
As full time residents of Boone, we noticed a lack of really amazing, high quality, and consistent foods. We also knew our town was overwhelmed with mass amounts of visitors for many parts of the year, and how tough it could be at times just to get on a waiting list at a restaurant. We saw that as an opportunity and ran with it. Since then, we have expanded from small private dinners and brunches, to full scale wedding services, and every event size in between.
The name Azafrán is inspired by our very first trip to Madrid together, and Liza’s Aunt Kathy who first instilled in her a love for cooking, quality food, and the value of experiencing the world. Azafrán is Spanish for saffron. The painstaking process it takes to produce just a pinch of this precious spice, for us, represents hard work, a superior product, and an abundance of flavor which we aim to reflect in our business each day.
